Work Package Leader: Hans Brug
This work package systematically reviews evidence on the effectiveness of interventions and policies to reduce lifestyle and socio-economic risk factors for cancer. The output of this WP consists of assumptions for input in scenario development.
The results of this work package are summarized in the end report, which can be accessed here.
The interventions that will be focussed on in separate reviews are:
- Smoking cessation among adults
- Obesity prevention among adults
- Increasing adult consumption of fruit and vegetables
- Increasing physical exercise among adults
- Lowering excessive alcohol consumption
Depending on the amount of literature published on the effectiveness of these interventions, original reviews or review-of-reviews will be conducted. Where possible, a ranking in order of effectiveness of the interventions will be presented. The output will consist of papers on the respective reviews, and a report presenting the most effective interventions for each life style factor.
Furthermore, a systematic inventory of past and ongoing interventions and policies to reduce cancer risk behaviors in the EU will be made in work package 4.
Principal researchers in work package 4 are Hans Brug, Anke Oenema, and Valery Lemmens.
All the work is done in close collaboration with work package 5.
